Auto accidents and injuries
If you are in an auto accident you should do the following:
If you or another is injured, get medical help. If your vehicles are in the path of traffic, you should warn other motorists with the use flares or hazard lights. You should call 911 to contact the police or California Highway Patrol if an injury or death occurs.
Get the information about the other driver such as his or her name, the names of any passengers, the type of car, witness names, accident location and more. If you have a camera on your cell phone you should take pictures of your injuries and damage to the vehicles to preserve as evidence.
Always cooperate fully with investigating police officers, don't accept any blame until you speak with your insurance company or lawyer.
After the accident, if you have been injured and need follow-treatment, call or see your physician. You should report the accident to your insurance company if you haven't already done so, and report the accident to the Department of Motor Vehicles within 10 days if someone is injured or killed or if damage to either car is more than $750.
